KNEE PAIN
KNEE PAIN
One of the commonest complains of pain, all age groups can suffer from knee pain. It is the largest joint of the human body with respect to the articular surface and joint volume. It performs the hinge joint function of highly coordinated flexion and extension and is capable of locking the joint in a stable position. The femur rolls and glides over tibia in a complex manner, therefore it is susceptible to damage of the cartilage or ligaments. Usually there is a history of injury to the knee in the past and it is remembered vaguely. The stability of knee joint depends largely on the muscles and tendons surrounding the joint.
Rheumatoid arthritis, gout and many such systemic diseases are responsible for multiple joint problems including the knee. The cause of knee pain may not be necessarily in the knee joint itself as this pain can arise from lumbar spine or even retroperitoneal region.Fracture, bone or synovial tumour, formation of osteophytes, joint space infection or foreign body, and many more conditions can cause knee pain. The causes are many, hence thorough examination and radiological examination of the knees is required besides blood investigations to rule out systemic causes. Conservative and minimally invasive treatment is available for knee relatedproblems at our centre in Meerut.
