PARAPLEGIA
PARAPLEGIA
Weakness of both the lower limbs can occur in any age group. Most commonly it is seen as a result of injury to the spinal cord following a fall from height, also called traumatic paraplegia. Young men are the victim of this sudden incapacitation, so you can imagine that the breadwinner is no more able to earn for the family. Even partial weakness of legs can affect a worker and make him unemployable.
The situation is a complex one, autonomic involvement, wasting of limbs, recurrent infections and surgeries, expensive tests and investigations are all beyond reach for the daily wager. Patient is often abandoned by the family in the
hospital or an ashram. We have tried to bring together such patients, and donors who wish to dispense wheel chair for them. This is a small step towards empowerment. A lot needs to be done for such incapacitated individuals. Depression is common, as they are bound to suffer from the feeling of worthlessness. We have examples of successful, self sustaining individuals who
strived to succeed in spite of paraparesis or paraplegia. One person or one institution cannot cater to the innumerable needy persons. It is our aim to gradually build a support system for paraplegics. Aadarsh Pain Clinic & Palliative Care is committed to assist such persons at all times. We need your support to register such patients with us and we shall try to
help them in all possible ways. All our palliative care services are subsidized.
